The Club will be hosting a climbing day at the Cove Campground, near Gore, VA and about 20 min west of Winchester, VA.

The Cove is a private campground that happens to have an abundance of good Tusacarora Quartzite, similar in geologic composition to Seneca Rocks.  For the past few years, a small group of Club members have visited the place and done some development work.  That said, there is plenty of potential and plenty to be done while we're out there.

What: top-rope and sport climbing, with some limited trad/mixed possibilities.  Bouldering in abundance but much of it has not been developed.  Holds tend to consist of a variety of edges, slopers, and knobs/chickenheads.  Cracks for gear are not common except on some of the easier lines that have been developed thus far.

We also plan to hold a gym-to-crag clinic for anyone that wants it and an overview clinic on drilling and bolting (both hand and power drilling).

When: 04 November, meeting at 8:30 AM.  If there is enough interest we can make it an overnight trip and stay to climb and Sunday.  The cost would be $10 per person.

Gear to bring: Harness, helmet, shoes, chalk-bag.  A top-rope rig and climbing rope.  Sport draws for those that want to lead.  A light trad rack to 2" for those that may want to try some of the mixed lines.  Long pants recommended.

As we are still working on developing the place, we can certainly do some work while we're out there.  Please bring work gloves, a wire brush (grill brush) and a set of shears/pruners (there's usually a good bit of green briar we can cut back).

Getting there and checking in: Use the address 980 Cove Rd, Gore, VA.

From the DC area, get to Winchester, VA.  Take US Rt 50 West from Winchester to Gore, VA.  At Gore, take Back Creek Road (Rt. 704) to a left turn onto Rock Enon Springs Rd (signs for Boy Scout Camp).  Follow this road a few miles to The Cove and proceed to the office where you will initially park and check-in.  Parking at the climbing area is limited so we may need to consolidate people/cars for the short drive to the parking nearer the crag.

Travel time from DC is roughly 2 hours.
